Do Vegas casinos ever actually pay out jackpots? Or do they always find some reason why wins are invalid?

Being they are privately owned, they can effectively make their own rules. I have read several articles over the past year or so of casinos denying jackpots based on "computer errors," and they seemingly never provide proof of such.

Brothers mix up

In P11, the Mitchum Brothers wait in the car for Dougie to meet them somewhere out in the desert. Rodney reminds Bradley why they need to kill Dougie - he took them for 30 jackpots at the casino and was allegedly the reason they didn't get $30 million in insurance relief from their hotel which burned badly to the ground. In P10, boss Duncan Todd ordered Anthony Sinclair, who worked at the insurance agency, to get rid of their 'Dougie Jones problem.' Following orders, Anthony went to the brothers and convinced them that Jones was the reason they did not get the insurance payout.
Mix up: put Duncan Todd and Anthony Sinclair as the brothers in the car in P11 (let's say the 'Todd brothers'), talking about killing Jones. In P10, put Bradley in place of boss Duncan Todd but as the owner of an insurance agency, and Rodney as his top guy (which would also in a way merge Buhsnell and Bradley, as corrupt insurance boss).
In P11, the Mitchum brothers randomly tell Cooper that his son just had to have a gym set. This is like an insurance agent peddling a life insurance policy or something. So the two brothers in that scene are in the spot of one 'Rodney Jones,' the insurance peddler, and Cooper in the place of the 'Todd brothers.' Those brothers had planned to kill this Rodney Jones but he delivered them the insurance money that they had previously been denied. Rodney might have gotten beaten up by Bradley and his goons earlier for suspicion that he was collaborating with the Todd brothers since their hotel burned down, shortly after he sold them the policy (alt version of P5 scene). He was then ordered to fix the problem (similar to the P10 scene), probably by planting evidence to frame them for fraud. Bradley (like Duncan Todd) was under control by a higher level boss, a billionaire version of Cooper (probably French Canadian - alt. to 'Richard Cooper'). He ordered the problem be fixed and Bradley then ordered Rodney Jones to plant evidence.
Rodney was discovered by co-worker Frank (the guy whose coffee Dougie drinks), who went to the police (put this Frank in Dougie's spot in P13). Put Rodney Jones in Anthony's place in P5 (conference room) and in P13 (sobbing) and Bushnell is like the police chief (thus playing two roles - insurance boss and police chief). Rodney Jones can save himself if he goes to the Todd brothers, who are corrupt but actually did deserve the insurance payout, with the check but also wired to get dirt on them (at the restaurant, P11). In P10, we learn the Mitchum brothers had a hit on Ike for some reason and then they see him getting arrested on the news. It follows that the Todd brothers would have a hit on this Bradley, who then got arrested for planting evidence to deny claims. If Rodney Jones gets the Todd brothers locked up, they might be equivalent to Mike and Bobby (S1 pilot) and Bradley equivalent to James - both parties ending up in lockup on the same night.

I Miss Gambling, But I Don’t Want To Go Back

I really wanna gamble today. I’ve been bet free for 60+ days now. The impulsive problem gambler in me keeps saying have one final round at the casino. Stop betting before midnight then you can start your Day 1 on 1/1/2021. Throw away your 60 something days of sobriety. You might win some money. You miss gambling anyways. Why deny yourself something you miss?
I do miss gambling. I think about it frequently. I miss the dopamine hits, and winning jackpots. I miss embellishing about my winnings to friends and other problem gamblers in the casinos. I miss laughing and cursing with other problem gamblers whenever we beat the dealer. I miss the atmosphere and being a “hotshot”.
There’s so much more about casinos and gambling that I don’t miss. I don’t miss the depression and desperation after a gambling binge. I don’t miss not being able to afford nice dinners and other luxuries because of problem gambling. I don’t miss not being able to buy Christmas gifts for my family because of my gambling. I don’t miss calls from bill collectors because of late payments. I don’t miss being harassed by my landlord because of late rent payments. I don’t miss eating ramen three times a day for a week because I couldn’t afford to buy anything else. I don’t miss the shame. I don’t miss the regret. I don’t miss almost everything involved with gambling. I don’t miss lying to family and friends. I don’t miss manipulating people to try to get more money so I could gamble. I feel like I could write novels about how many things I don’t miss about gambling.
Whenever I have feelings about going to the casino, I have to look at this list and remember how much harm I caused because of my problem gambling. The bad far outweighs the good. I have to be strong and continue to abstain from gambling. Things in my life are getting better. I don’t want to throw away my progress.
Happy New Year, everyone. Let’s continue to beat compulsive gambling together.

Rough Night at The Running Bear Casino (PAGE 1 of 2)

…The raging river, pulled them down.
Now they’ll always, be together,
In that Happy Hunting Ground…
- Running Bear by Sonny James
“Snakeyes! New roller, please, next up.” The game runner raked in the dice and chips and ignored the despair in the countenance of the most recent “high roller”. Ted shook his head and other people crowded him away from the dice pit. He was almost out of funds and it was still early. He’d budgeted his, “loss level” carefully to maximize his time at the reservation casino. It was an older one, filled with stereotypical paintings and statues intended to honor the local First Nations Tribes while fulfilling the expectations of rude tourists. He looked around forlornly for a new game to play. He didn’t care for the slots or the drawn-out and ever-shifting card games… ah, Blackjack! There was an opening at the table.
He rushed over before anyone else could snag it and bustled onto the chair. “Okay to deal me in on the next hand?” He interrupted the dealer, who ignored him until he was done dealing out the rest of the players and raking in the chips. He still did not speak but once Ted placed the minimum bet, he flipped a card down in front of him and the game began. Ted immediately started winning the straightforward game. He picked up most of his losses from his unfortunate run at craps and was finally enjoying himself. The couple at the far end of the table had apparently had enough and didn’t care for the new player. Ted liked to talk to new people and thought he was good at it. Before long, the other players had left and it was down to him, the dealer, and an older man, who wore a black cowboy style hat and chain-smoked thin cigarillos.
Ted, grinning heartily at his latest win, glanced over at the man, who had just fired up his next cancer-stick, “You know casinos, and a few bars are the last public places where anyone smokes. I remember when there were smoking sections at most places and my parents told me that there used to be no restrictions. I’ll bet you get plenty of pressure to stop from your family and friends. It’s a pretty bad habit for your long-term health…” Ted usually rambled on past any non-verbal cues that people might give him to stop talking, yet his diatribe came to a screeching halt at the look with which the stern-faced elder favored him.
The older man drew in a long pull on the firestick and then exhaled the stinking cloud into Ted’s face. He coughed a little and gagged at the odor of the raw blend of tobacco and chemicals. The old one removed the cigarillo from his mouth and tapped ashes onto the edge of the table and down onto the floor at his toes, “Sonny, nobody cares. Nobody wants your opinion, and you are not special, no matter what your mommy told you. I’ll do as I please and if you don’t like it, go bother people at another table.”
Ted gaped in shock. In his mind, the man’s words verged on an “assault”. He looked helplessly at the dealer, who just ducked his head and tried not to laugh. Indignant, he rose, took his pile of chips and fled into the depths of the gaming house in search of a friendlier table. He didn’t find one that he liked, so he finally gave up and sat at the bar. The bartender seemed to ignore him in favor of tidying up her workspace. He cleared his throat and received only a glance. He mumbled as much to himself as to her, “I just want a drink while I wait for a table to open.” He wondered at her stony silence, maybe she resents me for being…
His vocal ruminations were interrupted by a feminine voice, “What do you want?”
Ted looked up to see the bartender, mocking smile in place below shining, mesmerizing eyes. Ted simply gaped and eventually worked his jaw uselessly. The bartender shrugged and walked back to the other end of the bar. She spoke with a large man who was clearly part of the security team. He glared at Ted while she spoke. Ted wanted to avoid a confrontation. He’d been conditioned that he should seek authorities if such a situation loomed. Yet casino security was the only available authority here locally. There were Tribal Police on the Reservation, but he wasn’t sure they would want to listen to him. He finally shrugged and decided to go back over to the hotel for the rest of the night. This trip had been very unsatisfying… like all those he’d taken since he moved away from his parents’ home a few years previously.
There was an indoor walkway to the hotel, but Ted decided to go by the outdoor route to get some fresh air and enjoy the natural beauty that the builders had incorporated into the facility. As he walked dejectedly down the sidewalk, local flora pressing in from each side, he heard, from the nearby forest, a screeching wail. It startled him and he had to stop a moment to catch his breath and wait for his heart rate to slow to something more manageable. He realized that it must have been an owl or some other night bird. His father had told him that there were always weird noises “out in the sticks”.
As he plunged his hands into his pockets and determined to go to his room for rest, he caught the faint smell of burning tobacco on the breeze. It wafted over his shoulder from behind and caused him to emit a feeble cough. He looked back in annoyance. In the shadows behind him, he saw a figure. It was dark and stood still in a way that made him uncomfortable. An orange glowing circle of embers hovered around the face and rendered just enough light to illuminate the blue-grey curls of smoke as they exited the tiny conflagration and rose above the brim of a black hat. The ember flared for a moment and then flashed to the ground and was snuffed by a shadowed… foot? It wasn’t exactly clear to Ted; the figure’s lower extremities were... blurred. An even brighter flare, from a lighter or match stabbed into Ted’s eyes as the Smoker lit his next cigarillo.
Ted glared irritation but felt uncomfortable at the unnatural stillness to which the figure returned once the new fire was lit. He coughed once more, this time deliberately in a passive-aggressive attempt to communicate his displeasure and resumed his walk. He strained to listen behind him to determine whether the figure followed. He truly wished to get away from the stink and the threat of cancer or other respiratory illnesses. He slowed to listen, then gave up and looked over his shoulder again. There was no figure in the dark back near the exit to the casino. He turned to resume his walk, but a smoky black form now loomed before him! Its eyes glowed and smoked like large twin cigars as it gaped a maw that emitted pure black smoke and glowed with blue flames within the deep tunnel of the throat. Ted’s consciousness fled his body and found itself in a burning nightmare landscape that extended for as far as he could perceive in all directions.

Darnell, known to his public as “Murder Bush” a deliberate mistranslation of “merde bouchea.k.a. “Deadly Rapper” for having been a suspect in a shooting back in his youth, stepped up to the dice pit as the geeky dude left. He had plenty of chips and cash to back them. His entourage was there to support him and kiss his backside as often as he wished. He rolled through six passes before he crapped out. He hadn’t over-bet, so he’d won a small amount. He picked up his latest winning chips and handed them to the hostess who had kept him well plied with drinks and snacks. He was sure that for the right price, she would take care of his other needs. He played a few card tables and finished with Roulette.
Each time he won a few chips, he passed them on to the young woman or to one of his flunkies. In the end, they had all received at least some reward for the praises they’d heaped upon him; not for any real accomplishments, but rather to curry favor with the man whom they considered to be wealthy and important: a celebrity. The girl stayed at his side and except for when he asked her questions, she said nothing. He liked that: bitch know her place, he reveled in internal satisfaction. He liked her looks too. She was medium height and a little, “thick”. She was clearly interested but hadn’t gotten in his way when he flirted with other women. He truly liked this one. The more he considered her, the more he wanted to get down to business.
Eventually, he posed the question to her, “How much for the next few hours?” His brazen suggestion that she would take money for sexual favors was the final test. If she grew angry, then she didn’t appreciate his genius…
“Whatever you think is fair. How about we see if I can satisfy you? If I can, then you may want to be generous… as you have been so far.” She hefted the chips so that the pieces clinked in her palm. “If not, I don’t deserve a reward.”
She had passed with flying colors. Might even take this one back to civilization with me, he purred in his mind. He’d always thought of himself as a Big Cat… maybe a leopard or jaguar, definitely something dangerous and sleek. His need grew more intense by the moment. He desperately wanted this woman. “Come on, let’s go to my room.” He husked in a voice grown thick with desire.
They reached his suite, his groupies having been dismissed to their own nefarious pursuits, even his bodyguard. The big man had shrugged, “Your call boss-man.” and then stumped across the hallway to his own room. Now he was finally alone with… her. He stripped off his shirt and flipped his shoes into a corner. She stood by the window and watched. The drinks he’d consumed finally caught up with him before he’d shucked his pants and drawers, “Hold on, I’ll be right back.” He was excited, which made urinating a challenge, but it had to be done, so that he could maximize his pleasure. When he stepped from the restroom, au natural, he saw that his latest conquest had done the same and now stood, bare to the world and staring out the window, all the curtains on it pushed to one side, so that the night loomed and the light of a single small desk lamp lit the room. He stalked over to her, ready to take her right there at the window in full view of anyone who looked up from the outside. He secretly hoped for an audience. He enjoyed having others watch him take what he wanted.
She turned to face him, her head lowered… no, it had sunken into her body, only her hair remained above her shoulders! A… mouth, gaping and slavering opened on her stomach, a mouth too large for her body and rimmed with rows of teeth like sharpened spikes. She stepped forward to embrace him and the screaming began… sounds that he was accustomed to eliciting from others rather than emitting from his own person.

“Rhino” was unhappy. He didn’t like to leave Darnell unattended. Perhaps now that his boss was in the room, he could go stand guard outside the door. He took care of some personal ablutions as he wolfed down a couple of energy bars and then walked out into the hallway. He started to settle in front of Darnell’s door, when he heard a muffled scream and faint… slobbering-gobbling noises come from the other side. He quickly tried the door, initially too panicked to think of the extra key card with which Darnell had entrusted him. He fumbled for it and soon had the door open. The interior was completely dark. The light from the hallway spilled inward but didn’t seem to reach as far into the room as it should.
He drew his pistol from the holster on his waistband and began to stalk forward, “Boss, you okay? You hurt?” The room was as silent as a tomb, he shivered a little as that thought crossed his mind. Over by the closed drapes, he smelled something awful: fresh blood and spilled entrails… recent death. His feet squelched on wet carpet. He turned around quickly. There had been no noise, but he’d felt a… presence. There she stood, arms spread wide, mouth on her gut spread wider. Rhino wasn’t one to scream or yell, even in extremis, so no others would come to this room to investigate.

Shelly was glad when the rowdy group left the roulette wheel that sat behind her favorite row of slots. The former “one-armed bandits”, that were now, “multiple button digital bandits” lined every available wall space, and in some spaces stood in rows that drew regulars like a dung-heap draws flies. She’d grabbed her favorite machine early in the evening and sat sliding in dollar bills and working up her points. It was called “Buffalo Dance” and featured images of American Bison and feather-bedecked hunters. The theme on the screen matched and she hoped to one day see the “White Buffalo” image adorn the entire set of images… the grand prize view. Despite the fun graphics, it was her favorite because it was near a restroom and a free soda and snack bar. She found herself ahead and on a roll. She absently lipped her dangling cigarette back into her mouth for a long draw. The smoke obscured the screen for a moment, and then she noted a shadow that lengthened across the reflective surface. Someone stood close behind her. Someone who exuded a chilly air. She paused and looked around, “Can I help you?”
There was no answer, though the shadow shifted slightly as if its caster had heard her.
Now she grew annoyed, this is just the sort of thing to break my winning streak! she raged internally. She braced her hands against the machine and worked her buttocks to make the stool on which she perched spin, so she could confront her harasser. She gaped, and nearly lost her cigarette, there was no one standing near enough to cast the shadow. No one even faced her. She chalked it up to excitement, maybe someone stepped too close when passing to go to the restroom, she thought, still a little annoyed and... chilled.
She turned back to her game and continued working the buttons, pumping in bills, and winning, a little at a time, the points now built well above her investment. This weekend is gonna pay for the last two months of losing and breaking even, she thought triumphantly. The shadow loomed across the screen once more, this time even larger, as though the figure that cast it stood closer. The shape was amorphous but hinted at anthropomorphic. She shivered as an icy breeze flowed around her, as though the air conditioning had sent out a short, cold burst, a minor malfunction…
She turned around with more alacrity and determination than the last time, mouth agape, cigarette once more dangling… precipitously and endangering the cleavage she displayed, already baked and wrinkled from years of sunbathing. The frigid air passed, and no one stood anywhere near her, though a customer approached, headed for either snacks or relief. “Excuse me sir, did you just see someone, maybe a large man, standing behind me?”
The man paused and looked at her in confusion. He had clearly been absorbed in his own thoughts, “Er, what? Uh, No. I wasn’t really paying attention, but… no.” He bustled on toward the free fountain drinks machine.
Shelly shrugged, can’t give up now, the pot is even bigger. She checked her points; she was nearing her all-time high. The winnings would pay her space rental fee at the RV park for the entire month. She pressed and played the buttons more fervently than ever, determined to break the bank on straight points or to reach that magical spin that would offer an instant reward of $10,000.00. She set her new points record and reveled for a moment. She reached for the now small stack of dollar bills the rest having been devoured by the machine. She fed in the entire remaining amount, then once more gazed at the screen. It was entirely blackened by a looming shadow.
The temperature of the air around her plummeted and she shuddered with the sudden biting cold. The cigarette was long extinguished, and she’d let the cold fag fall into the ash tray built onto the side of the machine opposite the drink holder. She was so cold, and she wanted to cry out for help, but the darkness closed in around her as the shadow enveloped her and cut off her breathing. Her fingers, paused above the “spin” button, struck and as her consciousness faded, she saw the flashing blue light and heard the blare of the winner’s siren. White Buffalo images filled all nine spaces. I won! The grand prize!

Terry filled his large cup and stood sipping and daydreaming. He’d lost everything he’d budgeted to lose. Yet he knew that one more try would put him back in black for this trip. He mused about what he would do with the prize money. He’d set his limit at $300.00 and had quickly lost it all on slots. Maybe he could risk just a few more dollars… skip a lunch or two until his next paycheck if it didn’t work. He was startled by the jackpot winner’s flashing light and siren that went off just behind him. That bitch! He yelled internally. Figures some old used up skank would win the big prize. He looked over at the nearby machine with anger and envy vying for control of his senses. She was gone!
He stepped over to the machine and looked around in confusion. Maybe she’d gone to the restroom? No, she’d have passed right by me. He shook his head and stepped up to look at the screen. He could still feel the recent presence of a player, the trace of warmth from a human body that might linger in a space for just a moment after the human had vacated the space. He looked around the casino floor, she was nowhere in sight. She’d been wearing a low-cut silver-spangled top that was cut way too low for her sagging, sun-ravaged bosom. She should be easy to spy, she looked like a deflated disco ball that had fallen from the ceiling to play slots. The only thing that came his way was a train of employees, led by a waitress in a skimpy outfit with purple sparkles and carrying a tray with a glass and a dark bottle. She was followed by other employees, who’d formed a sort of conga line: they sang a congratulatory chorus as they approached.
Terry gaped for a moment when he realized that they thought he was the big winner. He’d have to deny it of course. Surely the woman would be back at any moment to claim her prize. The floor cameras would have recorded who had sat at the machine, but it was too late. The group of enthused employees encircled him, and the attractive young waitress poured him a glass of champagne and snuggled up to him. The manager approached and seized his hand for a vigorous shake, “Well done sir! I see that not only have you hit the jackpot, but you’ve raised an additional $3,000.00 in points. A fabulous prize and well played I’m sure.”
Terry was flabbergasted. He’d never won anything like this… I still haven’t, not really, he reminded himself. He rarely broke even on his gambling forays, whether to the casino, or the corner store for lottery tickets and video slots. He allowed himself to be swept into the reverie and led from the machine to the bar. The employees peeled away as they approached, and he soon found himself with only the bottle and a receipt that he could cash out before he left the premises. A sullen-looking woman stood behind the bar, wiping glasses and a large, mean-looking security staffer menaced the far end. He already had his bottle, so he wasn’t sure why the staff members had deposited him with these two killjoys. He shrugged, picked up the champagne and started to walk away from the bar.
“You can’t take that with you. Either drink it here or give it to me and I’ll put it in the trash.” The bartender stated in monotone.
The security officer stood up straight from where he’d been leaning against the far wall, apparently propping up the building. He folded his massive arms in a threatening manner. Silly, thought Terry, folded arms should be a hindrance, but I get the feeling he’s dangerous regardless. He figured that he’d had enough anyway and set the nearly empty bottle on the bar, “You can keep it ma’am. I can afford another at the hotel.” Terry started to walk away from the bar, but a huge ham-like hand seized his shoulder.
Sausage-sized fingers applied painful pressure, “You apologize to the lady.” The wet heat from a mouth placed uncomfortably close to his ear and beath smelling of river bottom, sent a shiver of disgust through his body. The voice was low and deep as the river that ran past the back side of the property.
Terry decided on the better part of valor and head facing forward to avoid the obscene orifice, “Sorry ma’am, I meant no offense.”
The fingers let go and a harsh laugh sounded from behind the bar. “He don’t even know why he’s apologizing, fool. He ain’t worth the trouble, let him go.”
Terry felt a slight shove and he was sent on his way to the cash-out window. There he met with the lead cashier, an older woman in drab clothing, “I’m sorry sir, we give out only these pre-paid cards, we cannot provide cash over $1,000.00. However, you can treat them like a debit or credit card.” the cashier informed him. It seemed he had no choice, so he accepted. Thirteen grand is thirteen grand, he assured himself. He was elated, though he continued to glance around nervously, waiting for the woman in the sparkly fish-scale top to accost him and name him thief. Yet she was nowhere to be seen. The floor was full of players, some laughing, some intense, some dejected or mesmerized by the games of chance in which they’d lost themselves.
He thought about what to do with the rest of his evening. He didn’t have a hotel room; he’d planned to sleep in his station wagon as he always did before the long haul home. Perhaps he should get a room? Maybe they would take him without a reservation… he giggled a little at the unintended pun: a reservation at the Reservation… he shook his head to clear his overreaction to the silly internal joke. He decided that maybe someone on staff could help him. He approached the major domo at the front entrance that led to the interior walkway and the hotel beyond, “Excuse me sir, do you know whether the hotel will accept a resident without a prior reservation?”
The man, single dark braid wrapped in a leather holder and draped over one shoulder, looked at him gravely, “Yes, I know.” He said nothing more and did not smile as though he’d intended to be humorous.
Terry tried again, “Will you tell me please?”
The man flicked his chin in the direction of the hotel, “See the clerk at the desk.”
“Jerk, you’d think I hadn’t pissed away enough cash in this place over the past few years,” Terry muttered as he stumped toward the hotel, ensuring that he was well beyond earshot before he spoke. His head had begun to buzz a little from the champagne. Took a while for it to affect me, he mused. The hallway appeared to narrow, and his peripheral vision grew grey. He felt dizzy and as he entered the main lobby, the large room began to spin. His last view was of the sky-blue ceiling decorated with a few puffy clouds as it faded into darkness like the sun had set.
He awakened to the sounds of voices chattering happily. He looked around, his vision blurred slightly and his head feeling heavy and sore. He soon found that he could not move his arms or legs… they were bound… he was strapped to a table. He saw numerous bodies moving about in the mostly dark space in which he found himself. “Please.” He croaked, throat dry and feeling scraped. “Please, help me, let me loose. Loose me…” his perceptions cleared slowly, and he saw that the bodies that moved around him, now chanting rhythmically rather than babble-chattering, were emaciated. The owners showed as much bone through their skin as would a dead thing, long decayed. He noted spikes above a few heads… no, antlers… The rest wore… masks? Of various beasts… no, the skulls of those creatures, still filled with glistening fangs. Their dance grew ever more frantic, more energetic than they should be capable of performing. Then one of them reached out with a stick, on the end of which was a small claw, taken and preserved from some dead animal. It used the claw to gouge out a scoop of flesh from Terry’s side. He screamed in torment and horror. His screams soon matched the rhythm of the chanting and they went on for a long time before they at last faded when he’d lost too much blood to remain conscious.

A very disabled man sat down at my 2-5 game

It was very obvious this man was both physically and mentally disabled... He could not walk or even speak, he would communicate by grunting to his caretaker, who could understand him and would vocalize to the table what he wanted to say. The caretaker would also lift up his cards so he could see them and move his chips once he told her how he wanted to play.
He bought in for the max 1k, after explaining (as always, through the caretaker) that he had just bagged a 20k jackpot on a slot machine and wanted to play in the "big game". He was in a great mood from the slots, even though he must have dumped about 4k (he busted and bought back in a few times) to the table in the two hours I played with him. The pros at the table did a very good job of making conversation with him, certainly in order to get him to stay longer - I can't really fault the pros for that.
It was a pretty tough table too, there were 3 known pros, myself, and 4 ok regs (who I guess were the fish) that were playing when he arrived. Tbh I was probably also a fish at this table, but I felt like I was on my A game, and I don't mind facing good players occasionally.
I felt bad playing with him, and left after 2 hours or so, although I don't really know if I feel bad because it seemed like I was taking advantage of him, or if it was just because I was running like dogshit in my hands against the better players. Probably some of both. There's always the thought that "Well, someone's gonna win a lot from him tonight, might as well be me instead of the pros." I won a lot of skalansky dollars at least, although they never materialised into real dollars due to run-bad. I hope he was able to keep most of his remaining 16k, but knowing how casinos are, I doubt it.
I understand that we're all equal before the law, but high stakes gambling for someone in his position is just infinitely more self destructive than the typical business guy who can afford, and pays 30$ an hour in rake to the house / EV to better players to have some fun once a month. At the same time, the man was having fun - and how can we deny that from him?!, even if he probably didn't realize how much exactly he was paying for it. The whole experience left a very sour taste in my mouth.

At the Holy Grail Casino, you gamble with a lot more than money

"King-high diamond flush," I said boldly as I laid my cards out on the table.
Despite my strong hand, my heart still thumped in my chest as I waited for the only other player in the hand to reveal his cards. Although my odds of winning were good, I was nervous. If my opponent had the ace...
"Ace-high diamond flush," my train of thought was disrupted and heart my sank. My opponent had the goddamn ace.
Unlike any other time I had played Texas Hold 'Em at a casino, I had no idea what to expect. See, I wasn't at a normal casino. I was at the Holy Grail Casino, where one does not gamble with money.
My opponent had wagered a finger, and I thought that that had been some colloquial way of making a small bet. Just as we frequently say "an arm and a leg" figuratively for an exorbitant cost, I thought that 'finger' was being used in the same context. I was proven brutally wrong when the dealer, without a hint of emotion, pulled a large knife out from some concealed location and chopped my pinky finger off.
I screamed, both in pain and disbelief. I had been expecting the most intense gambling experience of a life time, but I hadn't imagined anything of this magnitude.
I had finally found a form of gambling even I balked at.
I'll come clean and say it, I'm a compulsive gambler. I've had an enduring fixation on Lady Luck as early as I can remember. As a child, I loved making bets - even small and petty ones - with my peers.
When I was eighteen, and had my first job, I squandered a bigger portion of my very first paycheck than I care to admit on scratch-off lottery tickets.
With my addictive proclivities, I ignored the glaring net financial loss that this incurred, instead gravitating to the mere twenty dollars I did win with those tickets.
Now you can tell me that my gambling winnings are heavily outweighed by my losses over the years, and you'd be right. It's a stubborn fact that cannot be truthfully denied.
But it didn't matter to me. I was addicted to gambling. I was always convinced that the big, life-changing win I needed was right around the corner. It is this lifelong habit that has not only brought about a life of financial strain, but which, I fear, has brought about my imminent appointment with my own mortality.
You see, my gambling problem reached its zenith last year after I cajoled one of my poker friends, Dallas, into taking me to a secretive and high-stakes casino that he frequently spoke of, and this is as good a place as any to begin telling what happened.
"So, is this the night you're finally going to accede and tell me more about the mythical 'high stakes venue' you claim to frequent, Mr. Big Shot?" I asked my friend Dallas.
Dallas was a pro at gambling. At least, he swept the floor with the competition nine times out of ten and the backroom card games we frequented.
Dallas groaned loudly in the passager seat.
"Come on bro," I said doggedly, "you can't just set something up on a pedestal like this and not expect someone to persist."
"I don't know man. This isn't kitty shit. This is the big leagues." Dallas answered.
"I'm not a lightweight." I objected.
"No...but this is way more than anything we'd ever bet back there," he said, referring to our backroom games, one of which we had just left.
"This is the real shit. Hard-fucking-core. This is the most hardcore gambling around." Dallas continued.
"Like what, Russian Roulette?" I joked.
"Nah man." Dallas said cryptically.
"Look man, I give you rides to these games every week. You owe me." I was getting seriously annoyed at his reticence.
"Fine," Dallas groaned, exasperated.
I couldn't believe it. I had actually worn him down!
"But I'm warning you. This is serious shit." Dallas said sternly.
"I want to go." I said firmly.
Dallas reached into his wallet and handed me a medallion.
Upon inspection, I saw one side was affixed with the design of an ornate, bejeweled chalice with the words 'Holy Grail Casino' written above it. On the other side, written in elegant calligraphy was the phrase 'omnem marmora' - "all the marbles" in Latin.
This certainly bore the look of a ritzy and exclusionary place. I had a feeling I'd either win the jackpot of jackpots or end up homeless on the street. The reality would prove much worse than the latter.
Dallas was looking at me oddly, almost as if he was worried. But he could tell he wasn't going to be able to talk me out of it. I still hate him for his acquiescence to my pestering.
"When can we go?" I asked excitedly.
"I was planning to go tomorrow-," Dallas started.
"When I should I pick you up?" I interrupted.
"That's...not how we get there." Dallas answered.
"What-," I started, but it was Dallas' turn to interrupt.
"When you go to bed tomorrow night, write your full name on a piece of paper, then put it and the medallion in your pocket when you go to sleep."
I looked at him incredulously. Had he been fucking with me this whole time?
"Look...just trust me. Either do it or don't, but that's how you get there." Dallas said matter-of-factly.
I looked silently at the road as we neared the place where Dallas lived. Dallas seemed to be pensively looking out the window, as if he was debating whether or not he should have give me the medallion.
I dropped Dallas off without a word and raced home. I don't know why I was such a hurry - I guess I wanted to start waiting for tomorrow night as soon as possible.
After a torturous day of waiting, the next night finally came. Remembering Dallas' instructions, I wrote my full name on a slip of paper and placed it, along with the medallion, in the pockets of my sweatpants that I was wearing to bed for that purpose.
I could have sworn that I had heard my name being chanted as I drifted off to sleep, but the authenticity of those sounds is still ambiguous. What is not ambiguous is the fact that, shortly after falling asleep, I found myself in an opulent red-carpeted casino.
I was in a lobby of sorts, at least I think that's what it was. I was in a large, marble room with Greco-Roman style columns flanking a plush red carpet that led to two magnificent ebony doors, which boasted intricately carved ivory handles.
As I was soaking in the amazing luxurious sight, a man in a suit briskly approached me.
"You can't go to the floor dressed like that!" He admonished me, pointing to my sweatpants and white t-shirt.
"I'm sorry-," I began sluggishly, a bit confused by everything. Was I honestly expected to go to bed in a suit in order to gamble here?
"No worries sir," the man had a rather upper class accent, "we will get you outfitted here free of charge."
A short while later I was sporting a fine burgundy suit, a white dress shirt, and black loafers, and being led by the casino worker back to those grandiose doors. He stopped in front of them, held one of the doors open, and ushered me in.
"Enjoy your stay sir," he said as he closed the door behind me.
I took in the even more impressive sight that was the gambling floor. I stood at the top of a red-carpeted staircase with gilded railing, looking down at a large room. On the far end, the words 'Holy Grail Casino' were displayed prominently on the wall, illuminated by spotlights.
Like the lobby, a red carpet ran through the center, bisecting the impressive layout of games and tables. Interestingly, there didn't appear to be any slot machines- there seemed to be exclusively traditional games. Poker tables, blackjack tables, roulette wheels, and craps tables I all recognized.
Finally, I descended the stairs. The patrons and staff paid me little attention as I set foot on the floor. I briefly scanned the floor for Dallas but saw no saw no sign of him.
I shrugged and decided to jump into the games. All around me, finely dressed patrons were engrossed in their games, and others stood to the side, nursing cocktail glasses or puffing on cigars.
I had never had much of an affinity for roulette or craps, and I avoided blackjack like the plague (it's definitely rigged for the house). Accordingly, I quickly settled on poker.
After eyeing several tables I settled on a table occupied by just one patron - an uninterested old man in a black suit.
"Can I join here?" I asked.
The dealer replied affirmatively.
I sat down and noticed there were no chips in sight. I thought it had been odd that I hadn't received any, but I had just figured they would be given at the table. Curious, I asked.
"First time?" The dealer raised an eyebrow.
"Yes."
The old man sighed, annoyed. What the hell? Shouldn't a patron at such a purportedly high-stakes venue be eager to have fresh meat?
"Well, the rules state that one's first game is one round of betting only." The dealer said in a monotone voice. No wonder old man was annoyed.
I nodded and sat down.
"But the chips-," I began to inquire.
"We don't use 'em here." The old man spoke for the first time.
Before I ask what we did use, the old man placed what would apparently be the sole bet of this hand: a finger.
Had I heard him right? He couldn't actually mean-
"Bet is one finger." The dealer said, interrupting my thoughts.
As I stated in the beginning, I assumed that 'a finger' was being used in the same figurative context that one often uses the term 'an arm and a leg.' I called the bet.
The cards were dealt, and I felt confident as I laid out the King-high flush I spoke of in the beginning. But then came the old man's ace-high flush, and then came the chop.
I screamed. To my shock, none of the other patrons even looked up from their games at the sound of my screams and the chop. Was this an ordinary occurrence?
Before I could get up from the table, the dealer also procured some sort of ointment and quickly dabbed some on the nub where my finger had been. The bleeding instantly stopped, and the pain eased, but I was having none of it. I got up from the table and began to run back to the doors. This was too much. I had to get out of here.
I heard a despaired howl coming from the direction of the roulette wheels as I made it back to the center of the floor, but didn't dare look back at the source. I stepped onto the carpet and set for the stairs when I nearly collided with Dallas.
"Hey you made it!" He said. "Oooh tough break with the finger," he indicated my hand.
"How have you never lost anything?!" I asked pointedly, barely resisting the urge to shake his shoulders.
"Well I have," Dallas smirked.
"You-you have all your digits." I sputtered.
"Well that's cause I won them back." He said.
"You can win them back?!" I was in disbelief.
"Of course, they'll reattach it if you win one."
I should have just cut my losses. I shouldn't have been swayed by temptation. But if you know the rabbit hole that is gambling, you'll know how much people put themselves in the hole vainly trying to win back a negligible loss, all the while turning that negligible loss into something substantial.
I was still weighing my options (stay or quit while still ahead) when a booming voice disrupted my deliberation.
"Attention floor! We have a class ten loser! Death!"
He couldn't actually mean-
Before I could make any kind of move, the patrons become a mob, and the wave people pushed Dallas and I to the center with them.
A man, who I noticed was already missing an arm, was on his knees sobbing. An emotionless casino dealer stood before him, holding a sword.
"Everyone c-cut y-your loss-losses," the man stuttered through sobs.
Before he could say anything else, the sobs were cut off by the slice of the sword, and the poor man's head hit the floor and tumbled, landing at my feet.

Lucky Nugget Casino Review

The very first phrase you see written on the site prominently in the top left-hand corner is “Established 1998.” Immediately, this gets a site a ton of brownie points in our book because longevity in this industry is only achieved through offering a great product with great customer service. Without happy and long-term customers, an online casino will crumble within a few years or a few months and slowly fade from view.
Seeing that the Lucky Nugget Casino had been in business for almost 20 years had us excited to continue the review. The initial issue, though, was that we could have guessed the site had been around for 20 years just by looking at the homepage. The site’s homepage was a menacing wall of text with an aesthetic design straight out of 1998.
Now, if this is the first site you’ve ever visited, you’re probably going to leave and look for somewhere else to play immediately. It’s easy for a new player to gauge the site based solely on the first impression which is totally understandable. The reasons we are not so quick to dismiss the Lucky Nugget Casino are two-fold. One, it’s extremely rare to find sites that have been successfully in business for this long and that carries a ton of weight with us. Two, we’ve seen A LOT of sites with awful homepages that still provide a phenomenal product.
The old adage of “Don’t judge a book by its cover” continues to hold true in this regard to online gaming sites. To get to the bottom of everything, we began our intensive “vetting” and review process. As you may already be able to tell, we do not just give you the positives about a site. We give you the honest scoop, period. Frankly, we have zero problems bashing a site into oblivion if we have to and zero problems giving a site credit where credit is due.
The point is that with our reviews you’re going to get information and analysis that you can ACTUALLY use. Too many review sites allow companies to pay for glowing reviews which just means you’re getting false information and are stuck holding the bag after a terrible experience with an online casino. This is NEVER the case with our reviews. We’re going to give it to you straight, regardless of if that is good, bad, or even sometimes ugly.

Ratings Breakdown

Overall

The Lucky Nugget Casino instantly got brownie points from us because they’ve been successfully in business for almost 20 years which is impossible to do in this industry unless you are treating your customers well and taking care of them. On top of that, game selection at the casino is strong including a lot of the expensive (for them to buy) branded games from Microgaming.
While all of these are big positives and definite cause for you to check out the site, there were a lot of things we’d like to see improvements on. First, we’d like to see the user interface for the site upgraded to be more current and easily to navigate. When you actually get where the games are, though, this is light years better, but we need to see congruence throughout the site. We’d also like to see some minor improvements with customer service options (they’re good, not great) and some expansion in the bonus department.
Overall, the site was “O.K.” and is one of those sites that may be a perfect fit for some due to the immense about of games offered but might be a miss for others due to the initial issues with the user interface. At the end of the day, it’s hard to ignore the fact that the site has been operational successfully for almost 20 years and with 4 million + players online at the time we were writing this review.

Lucky Nugget Casino Game Variety

Though it took us a while to find them, it’s hard to deny that the game variety at Lucky Nugget Casino was strong. With over 300 different slot offerings (and possibly more on the download client), 20+ video poker offerings, 9 roulette offerings, 30 blackjack offerings, and live dealer options, you’d have to be crazy if you couldn’t find a game you liked at the casino. The games were all of high quality, and several of the slot games were branded.
The reason we docked a point was that they did not have a lot of popular table games that we would like to see like craps or any other table games outside of blackjack and roulette for that matter. A few additional table games were offered in the live casino but were not available as a non-live dealer game. We’d really like to see them expand this out before we can give them a full five-star rating.

Lucky Nugget Casino Banking

Lucky Nugget Casino had a ton of different options available for deposits and withdrawals which are always great to see. The issue we had was that they did not list the fees or limits associated with each of these options. While we don’t think they are trying to hide anything, this is information that is extremely important when judging whether or not a website has great banking options or not. The majority of the industry has free deposits and some sort of fees on withdrawals, but there’s a growing trend of sites that are waiving all fees across the board. We’d love to know whether or not Lucky Nugget is part of the majority or the minority. Due to the lack of readily posted information, we had to dock some points from their banking rating.

Lucky Nugget Casino Bonuses

The casino had several different promotions including welcome deposit bonuses and a few game specific promotions for you to take advantage of. We were a little confused/off-put that they had several promotions that were listed that looked to just be ads for the bonuses already offered in the games. We also would have liked to see a bit more creativity in the bonuses, but as always, we’re happy to see some healthy deposit bonuses and any forms of free stuff.

Lucky Nugget Casino Customer Service

The site offers 24/7 live chat and email support to its customers and visitors. Usually, this would score at least a 4 on our scale; however, we weren’t completely satisfied when we tried out the live chat. The agent was friendly and prompt, but we didn’t get the answers we were hoping for or offers of additional help from an elevated agent or supervisor. That being said, we would imagine that most requests would be handled well by their customer support based on our interactions, so we only docked a half point for that. The additional point off is because we would like to see phone support added as that is becoming much more of a standard across the industry.

User Interface

This was a tough one to score for the site because it felt as if there were two different sites rolled into one. When we first visited the main landing page of the site, the user interface was awful. It was hard to navigate, contained just a wall of text, and was not visually appealing at all. However, once we got to the instant play section of the site (which took a while to find), the interface was significantly better and felt like a totally different site. There were still a few issues with that site (scroll bar way too small to click, multiple lists of games in one), but overall it was much better than the initial. We probably would score the first part of the site a 2/5 and the second part a 3.75 or 4/5. We averaged them to get the 3 out of 5.

Slots

While getting ready to review the slots portion of the website something became painfully clear. The poor layout of the homepage continues throughout more of the internal pages as we searched for the slot games. That being said, the casino has a downloadable client that we’re going to focus on for the rest of this review. This is mainly because they say that not all of their offerings are available via the instant play option and also because navigating the site is making our eyes bleed.
While downloading the Lucky Nugget Casino client, we had some more bad news. The download client did not work correctly and would never load. We tried downloading it multiple times, and it would fail to open several times and kick some scary looking error messages our way. Because of this, we were forced to go back to the instant play option which they say does not have all of the options mentioned.
Once we got to the instant play section, the layout and graphics did get considerable better. Frankly, it looked like a new site within a site. The slot games were organized into a Popular section, Jackpots section, and a general Slots section. The games were alphabetized and searchable which are both positives and making us potentially start warming back up to the site.
The one interesting thing about the slots list was that it was alphabetical, but there were two sets of games on the same list, so it ran from A to Z once and then A to Z once again. If you’re looking for a game, be aware of this and keep scrolling.
One other side thing that we weren’t huge fans of was the scroll bar on the right side of the screen to get through the games was about a millimeter thick. You had to have expert aim to be able to grab the bar and scroll through the games. If you have a scroll wheel on your mouse, that will work and fix this problem, but if you have a cheaper mouse or your scroll wheel is broken like ours is from years of online poker slamming, you’re going to struggle to scroll.
Regarding game quality, things were great for the site. They had a ton of options which included newer, high-quality games as well as several branded games (games designed after TV and Movies). We’ve included the complete list of games available on the instant play side of Lucky Nugget Casino here. Remember, the site claims they have more offerings in the downloadable client, but we could not get it to work properly on multiple tries.

Lucky Nugget Casino Games

The casino game offerings at Lucky Nugget Casino were equally as vast as the slot offerings. They’re definitely toward the higher end of variations offered for roulette and for blackjack. We would have liked to see a few more popular table games outside of roulette and blackjack, but the selection in those categories was still strong.
The casino games were broken up into Video Poker, Roulette, Blackjack, and a separate Live Casino tab. The Live Casino tab housed all of the live dealer games offered by the Lucky Nugget Casino. If you’re unfamiliar with live dealer games, you’re definitely going to want to check them out. Through the use of streaming technology, you’re able to take a seat at a real live table from the comfort of your own home. All of your decisions are made from your computer or mobile device, and then the action all takes place at a real table set up with a real dealer somewhere in the world. This option is great for anyone still skeptical about online gaming who wants to see the action take place with real cards and real roulette wheels.

Lucky Nugget Casino Banking Options

The Lucky Nugget Casino has a lot of different banking options available, and they vary by which country you are in. The site did not have limits and fees posted for each method, and we were unable to get that information from anywhere on the site. We would highly recommend contacting support to get things clarified before you get set up to make a withdrawal so that you use the best method available.

Bonus Promotions

The site had several promotions including specific game promotions and deposit bonus promotions.

Deposit Welcome Bonuses

The site gave you the option of choosing between two different deposit bonuses. It looks like you have to make your selection at the beginning of the process as there are two big Claim Now buttons when you first come to the site.
  1. 100% Deposit Match up to $1000
  2. 150% Deposit Match up to $200

Life of Riches

For every £50 you wager, you get one entry into a drawing to win a piece of 1,000 free credits. This is a monthly promotion.

Lucky Draw

Players will earn drawing tickets for depositing and playing on the site. 10 players will win a share of 200,000 loyalty points from the site.
The site listed several other “promotions” that looked to be nothing more than the bonuses already available on the games. It’s possible we are misreading this, but it was a little deceiving.

Customer Service

For customer service, the Lucky Nugget Casino offers email support and 24/7 live chat support. We tested out the live chat, and we drew some positives and negatives from it. The positives were that we were able to get a real agent on the line fairly quickly. They were friendly and prompt to try and assist us with our question. The problem was that we didn’t get much help with our question and they didn’t offer any other options afterward besides “Have a great day.”
Our request was a bit strange, so maybe we’re being a little hard on them, but it would have been nice to see them elevate our request to a supervisor or someone that might have been able to help us. Our guess is that with more “normal” requests you will get better service, but anything that confuses your agent doesn’t look like it’s going to be elevated to the right level properly.
The site also had no phone support which isn’t a huge deal, but phone support is becoming more and more standard in the industry, so this dinosaur in the industry is probably going to have to get with the program sometime in the near future if they want to continue competing.

Conclusion

The Lucky Nugget Casino was an interesting one that almost warranted a complete rewrite once we found our way into the actual game section of the site. The home page of the site is a nightmare to look at, and the navigation of the site is rough. Getting to the actual games was a challenge as we couldn’t get the download client to work and finding the instant play client took way too long.
However, once we got to the instant play client, the game selection was great and of high quality. Not to mention, the site has been around successfully for almost 20 years, so it’s hard to neglect the trust that comes with that. No site could operate that long unless they were doing right by their clients. Bonuses offered were ok (not bad, but not great) and customer service was also ok. Banking had a lot of different options, but without access to the possible fees or limits, it’s hard to say whether this is good or not.
Overall, the Lucky Nugget Casino is best described in one word – O.K. The site was not something we’re ranting and raving to our friends about, but it’s certainly not terrible and the fact they’ve been in business for almost 20 years says a lot about how they operate. This is one that is going to be up to your personal tastes and preferences. We’d recommend checking it out if you were recommended by a friend, have limited options in your area, or if you’re just curious. Most countries probably have some better options that exist, although if this site has the games you like, it may be a win for you.

Golden Star Casino Full Review

Payment processing has always been the biggest strain on the online gambling industry. Changing regulatory environments have sent casinos into a tailspin when they find out their main source of deposits is suddenly not available to them. In other cases, when an online casino finds a company willing to take them on as a client, the rates they are charged are as close to robbery as can be; this ends up cutting margins down to a bare minimum, making running an online casino less of an enticing career move.
The introduction of crypto-currency over the last few years has shown some signs of promise in the online gaming space. As the general public gets more accustomed to the idea of Bitcoin and its uses, we will see it adopted across more traditional purchasing. The gaming industry has adopted the technology from the start, with several Bitcoin-only sites popping up in 2013 and beyond. Recently, many providers have added cryptocurrency to their traditional payment methods, offering special bonuses for players to use the option.
Golden Star Casino is one of the true hybrid casinos when it comes to payments. As you will see in the review, the casino has integrated Bitcoin into all facets of their operations, from games to payments to promotions. This is a great way for players who aren’t familiar with the product to be able to give it a try without committing to a Bitcoin-only site.

About Golden Star Casino

Golden Star Casino is owned and operated by Jubise International N.V. Casinos, a Curacao based company. Established in 2012, the company also has a gaming license from the Curacao Gaming Authority. This license isn’t exactly rock-solid for players; the country tends to turn a blind eye to company behavior until it is too late. With the license, however, Jubise is able to attract the payment processors and software vendors it needs to provide you with a positive gaming experience at their site.

Who Can Play at Golden Star Casino?

Even though the company is licensed in Curacao, which would clearly give the impression that they would take players from the U.S., Golden Star doesn’t allow Americans to deposit or gamble. Well, actually… there is a way, but you need to be aware of what you are getting into. It seems that U.S. players who use Bitcoin to deposit can actually create real money accounts and play at the tables. However, there have been several instances of players trying to withdraw their funds which, once it was determined they were in the U.S., had those funds confiscated and accounts closed. It is hard to say if you can withdraw right into your Bitcoin account without it being detected, but for the time being, I do not advise you try this from the States unless you are willing to take the risk that your deposit may be taken away from you.
As for other restricted countries, here is the list:
  • United Kingdom
  • Spain
  • United States
Also, please bear in mind that certain software suppliers restrict what countries are allowed to access their games. As a result, you may find some of the games written about in this review are not actually available in your country. The best thing to do is to create an account, and you will be able to see all the options for your casino play.

Software Suppliers

As mentioned, Golden Star has chosen to work with several software partners for their brand. This is excellent news for you; the company has chosen a broad spectrum of vendors including some of the most prestigious in the industry. You can find games from the following companies currently at Golden Star Casino:
  • Microgaming
  • Betsoft
  • Net Entertainment
  • iSoftBet
  • Endorphina
  • Ezugi
  • Amatic
  • SoftSwiss
  • Quickfire
  • Belatra
  • Pragmatic Play
The casino games at Golden Star are available in a no-download format, meaning you can play them instantly through your browser. Many of the games are also formatted to be able to be played on most mobile phones or tablets, allowing you to take your casino experience on the move with you no matter where you are.

The Good Stuff

Jackpots

I love a casino that not only has several progressive jackpots available for its players but one who isn’t shy about telling you who has won them. At Golden Star, you can select from over 20 different jackpot games, and if you look on their jackpots page, there is a scrolling bar of recent winners; no one like to see that a jackpot isn’t paying out. Give some of their jackpot games a go if you want to get a little something extra out of your slots experience.

Bitcoin Slots

This is an interesting option for players; there are slots in the casino lobby that are designed for Bitcoin-only play. Why would a casino do this? Well, with the fluctuating value of Bitcoin these days, players may not want to get hosed on exchange rates. Also, this is an excellent way to have players learn about Bitcoin by having to think regarding the cryptocurrency throughout their entire casino experience.
Satoshi’s Secret is the most popular Bitcoin game in the industry, and you can try it at Golden Star Casino for free if you like to get a feel for the slot machine.

The Bad Stuff

Complaints about Terms and Conditions

No one likes to see complaints about an online casino, and many times I can dismiss them as individuals who are just upset that they lost their money. However, there are recurring concerns about the changing Terms and Conditions at Golden Star Casino. The company denies that they have made any changes without letting their players know, and have taken a strong stance on that accusation. I will continue to monitor that situation; if I find it to be actually happening, then it will be a big strike against the casino.

Games limited by Country

I’ll add this to the Bad Stuff because I live in Canada, and as a result, I am not able to access some of the better games that Golden Star Casino has on their site. While I totally understand why the casino isn’t allowed to offer all their games to all their players, it would be beneficial to have this information laid out in a clear manner somewhere on their website. I would much rather know going in instead of reading a review like this only to find out a game I love is not available when I make my deposit.

Game Selection

As I mentioned, you will find over 900 games at Golden Star Casino. I am going to take a look at all the different categories in more detail for you now.

Slots

It isn’t surprising to hear that the majority of available games in the Golden Star Casino lobby are slots games – this goes for almost every casino in the industry, whether online or land-based. However, having the multiple providers allows this casino to provide you several different looks to their slots catalog. They range from the fantastic content of the Microgaming slots to the 3D slot games that made Betsoft famous.

Table Games

The table games options at Golden Star Casino are a bit underwhelming considering how many suppliers the company has partnered with. Now, I may be missing some of the table games because of where I am reviewing the site from; all accounts are that they aren’t using Microgaming or NetEnt for games outside North America.

Video Poker

Along the same theme, there aren’t as many video poker variants as I would like to see at Golden Star Casino. I know that I am in the minority when it comes to video poker; I like the game more than most people do. Still, an online casino should easily be able to offer as many games as they can. Maybe they will read this review and add some from their vendors; I know they are available!

Specialty Games

One area where Golden Star Casino has apparently spent some time in development is in the Specialty Games offering. Using their partners like Quickfire, the casino gives you many different types of games to play that are not like the typical table games and slots. Many of these games have worse chances of coming out a winner, but I always consider them to be a nice way to take a break from a long session at the Blackjack table.

Live Dealer

Golden Star Casino has selected Ezugi as their Live Dealer provider. While the studios and dealers used by Ezugi are quite nice, there isn’t much in the way of selection from a games perspective. You can play the following games via the Live Dealer function:
  • Bet on Numbers (Bingo variant)
  • Keno
  • Blackjack
  • Roulette

PROMOTIONS

The promotions at Golden Star are pretty bland overall. They are focused on the deposit bonuses as their primary form of attracting to you to their brand. Here is an overview of the bonuses currently available on the website:

First Deposit Bonus

  • 100% up to €100 or 100 mBTC + 100 FREE SPINS
Make your first deposit in Golden Star Casino and get up to €100 or 100 mBTC and 100 free spins in the Lucky Sweets slot

Second Deposit Bonus

  • 75% up to €100 or 100 mBTC
Keep having fun! Make your second deposit, and we will refill your balance up to €100 or 100 mBTC.

Third Deposit Bonus

  • 50% up to €100 or 100 mBTC
More and more bonuses for you! Get up to €100 or 100 mBTC on third deposit!
The company does have one ongoing bonus for players who play on the weekend. They have a “Have A Nice Weekend” recurring bonus of 50% up to $50 or 50 mBTC.
Overall, it is pretty disappointing to see no leaderboard or jackpot promotions, especially given how many games they could use for these types of offers.

Tournaments

Golden Star Casino does have a large selection of tournaments running on a daily and weekly basis. For someone who gets bored with slots play pretty quickly, I enjoy the tournament concept; if I go on a long run, I can make some additional cash, and it is the only way I actually see any other screen names while I am at the casino.

As I have discussed many times in this review, the company seems to be very focused on making you a Bitcoin user, offering special games and bonuses for players who use the cryptocurrency. Golden Star does also have traditional payment methods available to its players; of course, each will be restricted by what countries are available. The most up-to-date payment methods for your country will be listed in the cashier section of the lobby after you login to your account.

Comp/VIP Program

Golden Star Casino does offer its players a hybrid Comp/VIP program. In essence, this is a comp program that has tiers to it, giving you more enticing conversion rates for your comp points. While I am a big fan of casinos that give you comp points that you can cash in for real money, I am disappointed that there isn’t more to the VIP part of the program. I am hopeful that there is a more individual program that they just don’t advertise.
Here are the levels of the system and what conversion rates come with each level.
  • New Star – (0-149 CP) – no exchange
  • Bronze – (150-999 CP) – 14:1 Exchange
  • Silver – (1000-4999 CP) – 13:1 Exchange
  • Golden – (5000-14,999 CP) – 12:1 Exchange
  • Platinum – (15,000-29,999 CP) – 11:1 Exchange
  • Diamond – (30,000 CP) – 10:1 Exchange

Customer Service

Customer Service at Golden Star is available three ways: a web form on the Support page of their website, email or Live Chat. There is no phone number to reach the casino at this point; the only way to get a hold of them in real time is via the Live Chat function.

15 Most Famous Slot Machines and Most Popular Slot Games

1. Liberty Bell

Invented and designed by a San Francisco mechanic named Charles Fey in 1895, the Liberty Bell is the first slot machine. The main symbols here include horseshoes, stars, spades, diamonds, hearts, and Liberty Bells. Once three bells are aligned, the machine pays 50 cents.
Having a coin slot at the top, it features small reels in the middle and a paytable at the bottom. It works like this - players insert a Nickel and pull a lever on the right-hand side to spin the reels. Although the Operator Bell and Liberty Bell have been removed from casinos, the original Liberty Bell on display can be seen in the Liberty Belle saloon in Reno, Nevada.

2. Lion's Share

One of the most famous slot machines, Microgaming’s classic slot Lion's Share, gained a lot of success back in 2014, due to news channels that discussed the topic on how Lion's Share's progressive jackpot hasn’t been hit for two decades. Thousands of people have tried but no one was lucky enough to pull it off.
Although the machine only featured 3 reels and only 1 payline, Lion’s Share has managed to become one of the most popular releases in Vegas, so popular that people waited in line just to put a coin into it and try spinning those reels.
Eventually, a New Hampshire couple hit the $2.4 million progressive jackpot in MGM’s Grand’s Lion’s Share. Soon after, MGM Grand made a decision to retire the Lion's Share machine since it required a lot of maintenance. Still, the game became part of slot history with a jackpot that took 20 years to win.

3. Megabucks

Created by IGT, Megabucks has managed to become one of the world's best progressive slot machines. The game is also responsible for numerous big wins throughout the entire jackpots’ history. Also known as the biggest money jackpots of all time, Megabucks slot machines are described as simple games with a massive progressive jackpot. One of the biggest wins was when an anonymous engineer won a staggering $39.7 million at Las Vegas' Excalibur, back in 2003.
As for the other big wins hit on this machine, there was a cocktail waitress Cynthia Jay Brennan who snagged an incredible $34.9 million at Vegas' Desert Inn, as well as a retired flight attendant hitting $27.5 million at Vegas' Palace Station. Johanna Huendl won $22.6 million whereas an Illinois businessman hit $21.3 million on the very first spin.
However, after winning the prize, one of the winner's family members had a tragic accident, which (as some believe) only supported the theory of a Megabucks curse. Other unfortunate stories are just believed to be urban legends, including anecdotes about underage players, as well as casino employees, being big winners but not being able to claim their jackpots because of specific state laws and regulation.

4. Wheel of Fortune

IGT’s Wheel of Fortune has proven to be the second most famous slot machine of all time. Featuring a bonus feature just like the real show, the slot machine is usually played by many slot fans and can be found in numerous casinos all over the globe. Although the game comes in more variations, probably the most popular one is still its 3-reel version, with a colourful wheel at the top.
The Wheel of Fortune multiplayer game features a bank of machines where every player gets their own screen. What makes the game even more exciting is the multiplayer edition where people can play the bonus round together, which really intensifies the game show aspect.
In a 5-reel Wheel of Fortune slot, however, Wild symbols will help players land winning combos and, if you’re lucky enough, you may get a Super Wild that will boost your win up to 5x! Last but not least, the Triple Action Bonus is activated by getting at least 3 Triple Action Bonus symbols anywhere on the reels. But still, none of the newer Wheel of Fortune slots measure up to the original one because of the large progressive jackpot involved.

5. Mega Fortune

Featuring 5 reels and 25 paylines, NetEnt’s Mega Fortune slot became very popular among players as it usually grows into a multimillion-euro amount before being hit. The main symbols here include luxury cars, yachts, and expensive jewellery, Mega Fortune is an online slot machine game which justifies its theme that comes with the largest ever online slot jackpots.
The game offers a few different features that make the entire gameplay more fascinating, however, by far the most interesting ones are the 3 different progressive jackpots: Mega Jackpot, Major Jackpot and Rapid Jackpot. There are counters for all 3 of these that are displayed above the reels. Champagne is the Scatter and if you land at least 3 of them simultaneously, you will trigger Free Spins bonus round. Likewise, Wheel of Luck is the Bonus symbol, and if you land 3 or more symbols in succession from left to right on an active payline, you will activate the Bonus game.
What’s interesting about this slot is the fact that a Finnish man won a huge jackpot worth €17.8 million while spinning the reels of Mega Fortune. This record from 2013, has been passed by Mega Moolah, but the game is still proof how rich players can get after playing Mega Fortune.

6. Mega Moolah

Although hitting the jackpot may not be easy, with only a few one in between, when big wins come, they can be big.

More precisely, the Wilds may only occur on the reels 2, 3 and 4, and, once 1 or more wilds appear on those reels, the Starburst Wild feature will be activated. During this feature, Starburst wilds expand to cover the entire reel and remain while the other reels re-spin. Should a new wild land during a re-spin, it expands and stays along with any previously expanded Starbursts for another re-spin.
Another cool feature is that Starburst pays both ways, instead of only paying you for landing at least 3 identical symbols on adjacent reels starting with the reel furthest to the left. The maximum single spin payout for a person (betting the $200 maximum) is $100,000. But, in order for that to happen, you must land five bars on consecutive reels on an active payline. Players love this slot, probably because it’s suitable for both newbies and experienced players.

Likewise, landing 3 or more Scatters anywhere on the reels in this game, activates the Chamber of Spins feature which cannot be triggered during Wild Desire.
The game is still among the most popular slots, as many players still try their luck in this slot in the hope to get the highest multiplier possible.

11. Gonzo’s Quest

Those looking for hitting a jackpot should pay attention to Quick Hit Platinum symbols as 5 of these contribute to 5,000x players’ original bet amount – and even more, with the max bet activated. No, Karen, I will not commit a felony because your kid wasn't allowed in.

posting on mobile, and it's a long one, TL;DR at bottom
Backstory: For the past 7 months I have been working as a Slot Technician at my local Casino & Resort, and I have definitely seen my fair share of things. "Make it hit and I'll give you a tip"-esque people, tweakers on nickel machines who smell of stale cheetos and piss, y'know, the whole nine yards. I am also an ADHD and Asperger's Syndrome person, so I have had some bad things called to me at this establishment.
So, about a month ago, a woman was stopped at the front door by a security guard because she was trying to bring in her, what seemed to be 12 or 13 year old, wheelchair-handicapped son into the casino floor (which here, like most places, is 21 years old or older to enter, no exceptions).
I was overhearing the conversation with security and a Uniform security agent at the main entrance.
(Key: EM - Entitled Mother, U - Uniform, SG - Security Guard) EM: "Why won't you let my son in? He's in a f---ing wheelchair" it's not like he'll be playing any of the games, he'll be right beside me. You could have a security guard be over me"
(Bear in mind, Security is wearing thin because they are short staffed that day)
U: "It's state law. We cannot allow him onto the gaming floor"
EM: "But he's beside me! He's not physically able to hit any keys! I'm on vacation from (Location) and I want to play the slots! I don't have anyone else to give him to!"
SG: "Sorry, Ma'am, no exceptions. We can escort you to the buffet and the entrance to the hotel, but that's it"
EM: "So, escort me to a slot machine and give my son to someone to watch over him!"
U: "There is nobody in the building that can do that."
EM: "Come on! They let me do this in Vegas when he was 10!"
U: "I'm sorry, you have to go."
She left, extremely pissed off, and I was behind a short wall, laughing my ass off.
But, this isn't where the story ends.
About an hour later, she comes back without her son and got let in to play one of our newest games that our department installed.
I'm not sure if it was common, but she got into her purse and taped a picture she just took of her son in the front entrance of our casino (I know it was today because of the clothes he was wearing and the fancy lighting in the doorway of the casino, and SG was confused as to why she was taking a picture of him after they got escorted out), and since there was a Staples near our casino, she might have got it printed out there.
So, as with most casinos I'm aware about, our cash out system prints out tickets you can use in other machines, but you have to put the ticket face-side up into the machine otherwise it will jam and they will have to call a Floor Attendant (if it didn't have credits already on it) or a Slot Tech to fix it.
Unfortunately, all of our floor attendants were all busy on jackpots with our supervisors, so Slot Techs had to take care of whatever comes to them.
As I was passing by the section she was in, I noticed EM jammed the bill acceptor purposely by repeatedly putting the ticket in upside down, until the machine read, "CALL ATTENDANT" on it. And, since I was right there, I helped her.
(ME - me, duh)
Me: "What seems to be the problem?"
EM: "The damn ticket wouldn't go in, I can't play this game"
Me: "Don't you worry ma'am, I'll fix this up for you and you can keep playing"
I then call the machine in to Surveillance so they don't get alarmed that I opened a machine
EM: "Well, since you have it opened and it is broken, maybe you can give me free play for my troubles?"
Me: "I apologize, ma'am, I'm just a Slot Technician, I don't have the power to do that. You could go to the Player's Club and talk to them if you'd like"
EM: "Well, RUDE. Since you know the machines and currently opened up mine, can you fix it to hit a big jackpot? I need the money for my son"
She then proceeds to point to the picture she taped on the machine.
Me: "Ma'am, I do not have the authority to make it hit, and I certainly do not think it is possible (as it was pseudo-random as I was aware of)"
EM: "But my son is wheelchair-ridden, and I need that money for medical expenses! Are you trying to stop me from doing that?"
Me, Closing up the machine after handing her ticket back: "Nope, machines ready for you! Let me put a little fairy dust on it for good luck!"
I then proceed to rub the machine with nonexistent fairy dust, in the hope of her getting lucky, as I do when I fix a machine up to give happiness to the patron
EM, pointing to my keys: "Well, why don't you make yourself actually useful and use your fairy wand to grant me my wish?"
Me: "As I have said, I have no power to do that."
EM: "What are you, retarded? I'm only asking you to rig the machine to pay out for my sick f---ing son, are you mentally handicapped, boy? IT'S NOT COMING OUT OF YOUR F---ING PAYCHECK!"
Let me tell you, I was bullied for being different all my life, and other than being called fat, I was also called retarded a lot, so it really hit too close to home.
Me, trying not to burst out crying: "Unfortunately, I do not have any authority to do such a thing."
I don't, in my state it is considered a felony.
She yelled at me, berating me calling me spastic (which I later found out that is a highly offensive term for a handicapped person in Great Britain) and how I was too stupid to be doing a job like this, among other offensive terms.
I called my supervisor about the ordeal, and while I was calling him, two of our city's policemen came to her and arrested her for child endangerment.
She had apparently left her kid outside in 30°F weather in the car, and a security guard on parking lot patrol noticed him and asked a few questions.
And, yes, her picture was sent to us from surveillance and now she's on a permaban list for our casino.
Oh, and because of her, I had a panic attack in the Slot Tech office because of her berating me so harshly. Luckily, they gave me an extra 15 minute break to hopefully reset, but I'm ok now.
Thank you for reading!
TL;DR: Mom tries bringing her disabled kid in, gets denied, comes back with kid left in her car, berates me to fix the machine to hit a jackpot, and gets arrested.
EDIT: Typo
UPDATE: Thank you for Reddit Gold, it was my first time receiving it, thank you ❤
I actually just found out at work what happened to the kid and mother. Turns out the mother was attempting to sue our casino for endangering her child because we didn't let her in with him, also discrimination. I'm not sure what the sentencing was, but, a few security supervisors said it was some jail time and CPS was called (thanks everyone for asking!) Needless to say the case got thrown out.

(All) Love Thy Neighbour (unless they are evil)

For me there is a great divide right down the middle of The Return, with Las Vegas on one side and the town of Twin Peaks on the other.
One of the clear 'social' messages of The Return is the importance of reaching out to others and helping them, using compassion to improve the world around you. Jaocby & Nadine, Ed & Norma, Shelly & Becky... so many character arcs are resolved when another character reaches out to make a difference in their lives.
Carl Rodd is doing this for other people constantly, perhaps most literally when he goes up to the woman whose son Richard has run over and looks her right in the eyes, while all the other extras shot (very clumsily) all 'look away' from the pain and suffering. This scene always stuck out to me as being extremely important, simply because extras don't do things without direction, and we get like three separate shots of people 'looking away'.
On "The Horse is the white of the eyes, and dark within", you could apply a 'biological' interpretation in combination with the above examples; the 'whites' of our eyes function so as to let someone else know what we are looking at (just think of all those crappy crime thrillers where one character silently points out an important item to someone by repeatedly looking towards it). Seen this way, 'the white of the eyes' can be read as a warning that the negativity of 'the horse' encourages people to look away from pain and suffering rather than trying to help.
On a side-note, there are also a couple of interesting instances when characters (arguably) refuse to help others, as if they are themselves being influenced by 'the horse'.
The sham known as Las Vegas
In a recent Twin Peaks Unwrapped podcast, Paul Bernardy also talks about the social message of Twin Peaks and the importance of 'reaching out', to offer help to others. We shovel ourselves out of the shit by shovelling each other out.
It was this episode which got me thinking Vegas, where we see a story which fits the 'help others' bill perfectly, but which perhaps really serves as a cautionary tale regarding who or what we choose to help.
In Vegas, whether he is self-aware or not, Cooper lives entirely by this 'help others' philosophy. He spreads love and happiness to all around him, from his home to his work to his friends the Mitchum brothers, even to random encounters such as the lady on the slot machines. He is the perfect example of the need for compassion towards others.
And yet, Vegas is kind of a big sham;
  1. Janey-E falls in love with Dougie when he provides cash and a sexy new Cooper body. Moreover, the life they lead is based in an near-abandoned suburb in the desert -- is this truly the existence Cooper wants these people to learn to accept? To come to love? Isn't that... a little delusional? Is that what someone like Mark Frost wants to tell us?
  2. The Mitchums are murdering gangsters, helping them have more money is not a good thing. We see them beat someone, almost shoot Dougie... these are killers. Yes they are seemingly nicer by the end on a personal level, but they are being nice to Dougie simply because he saved them some money. These guys run a casino (e.g a den of pain and suffering) called the Silver Mustang (white horse). These are not people Cooper should be helping, nor who the politically active Frost would endorse.
  3. Even Cooper's job is clouded; he is working for an insurance agency, one of the more despised industries out there. All that good Coop does for his place of work is going towards an industry that, stereotypically, will walk away from a healthy % of people when they need help the most (e.g. denying claims wherever they can).
  4. The lady who wins the jackpot? her story ends with her grandson hanging around her all of a sudden. To me this is more like gold-digging than love; he's back in her life simply because she has money, but Cooper has no concerns about this whatsoever. If anything, the grandson looks a little creepy too -- we could imagine some hard-boiled detective story ending with the grandson being the killer for the sake of inheritance money.
To sum this up, you have one half of the story taking place in a world where people can either reach out with love and push back the pain and suffering of the world (or not), and a world that is constantly being improved by Cooper's goodness... but which is & remains an evil, faded, failed imagining of the American dream.
The 'message' of the show then seems to be that we need to reach out with love and compassion, but also be aware not to be too naive and support a system that is fundamentally corrupt. Jacoby's rage might, at times, be far more appropriate than love and kindness.
To me this fits nicely both as a roadmap for how to build a better society, but also as a warning that it was faith in the American Dream that got places like Vegas into this mess to begin with. A message with Twin Peaks, so to speak...
